Two-way sync
Changes in Ironclad or Smartsheet instantly reflect in both systems. No stale data, no manual imports.
Keep Ironclad and Smartsheet in sync without custom scripts. Cut weeks of integration work, eliminate silent data drift, and give your team a single, reliable source of truth.
Two tools in the daily stack often hold overlapping information: the same people, the same companies, or the same pieces of work, described twice. The tools do different jobs, so consolidating is not the answer; the overlap just needs to stop drifting.
Stacksync syncs Signature Packets, Workflow Documents, Workflows, Records in Ironclad with Users and Groups, Sheets, Rows, Columns in Smartsheet in real time. You choose which records overlap, map the fields that should match, and pick a direction or let changes flow both ways. From then on, an update made in either tool is reflected in the other within seconds, without exports or copy-paste.
Because the sync is field-level, each tool keeps its own extras; only the shared data is held in agreement.
When work started in one tool continues in the other, the shared fields travel with it automatically.
Contact and company details corrected in either tool update the other, so nobody works from the old version.
Payments, replies, messages, or tickets created in one tool can create or update matching records in the other, keeping context in one place.
Representative objects on each side — any object or custom field can map to any target. Schemas are auto-detected; types are converted between the two systems.
| Ironclad objects | Smartsheet objects | How this pairing syncs | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workflow Approvals Per-workflow approval requests and their state; read to report approval status and cycle time, and status changes arrive live through the workflow_approval_status_changed event. | Discussions and Comments Threaded comments on rows and sheets; read out to sync collaboration history or activity into another system. | Workflow Approvals is specific to Ironclad and Discussions and Comments to Smartsheet — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Signature Packets The e-signature packets on a workflow (sent, signatures collected, fully signed); read to track signing progress, with packet events delivered by webhook for real-time status. | Users and Groups Account membership and sharing; synced to keep an HR or identity source aligned with sheet and workspace access. | Signature Packets is specific to Ironclad and Users and Groups to Smartsheet — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Workflow Documents Draft and executed documents attached to a workflow; retrieved to pull generated or signed files out into a document store or archive. | Sheets The core container; each sheet has typed columns, rows, and a modifiedAt stamp. Stacksync treats a sheet as a table and syncs its rows two-way. | Workflow Documents is specific to Ironclad and Sheets to Smartsheet — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Workflows The core unit of Ironclad: a live contract process (NDA, MSA, order form) moving through creation, review, approval, and signature. Launched via POST, updated via PATCH, and read for status, so contract processes move two-way between Ironclad and a database, CRM, or ERP. | Rows Records inside a sheet, each with createdAt/modifiedAt and cells keyed by columnId; the primary unit synced to and from external tables. | Workflows is specific to Ironclad and Rows to Smartsheet — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Records The Repository of executed and stored contracts with metadata (value, counterparty, key dates, type) and attachments; full create, read, update, and delete so signed-contract data and PDFs sync to a warehouse, ERP, or CRM. | Columns Define sheet schema and cell type (TEXT_NUMBER, DATE, CONTACT_LIST, PICKLIST, CHECKBOX); read via the API so field mappings can be generated. | Records is specific to Ironclad and Columns to Smartsheet — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Entities Structured records for counterparties and other parties linked to workflows and records; read and written to keep company and vendor master data aligned with a CRM or ERP. | Cells Row-by-column values; writes must match the column type and no single cell can exceed 4,000 characters. | Entities is specific to Ironclad and Cells to Smartsheet — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. |
Each direction of the sync is driven by what the source system can signal and what the destination accepts — detection, delivery, and expected latency below.
DetectionIronclad notifies Stacksync of record changes through webhook events. Native webhook subscriptions (POST /webhooks) fire on 40+ workflow, approval, signature, document, and comment events, and Ironclad retries a failing.
DeliveryEach detected change is written to Smartsheet through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Transform legacy EDI complexity into simple database interactions between Ironclad and Smartsheet.
Configure and sync within minutes, no code. Whether you sync 50k or 100M+ records, Stacksync handles the queues, infra, and plumbing. Integrations are non-invasive and need zero setup on your systems.
Authenticate Ironclad and Smartsheet with each platform's native method — OAuth, API keys, or service accounts — plus secure options like SSH tunneling, IP whitelisting, and VPC peering.
Pick the Ironclad and Smartsheet objects to sync — Stacksync auto-detects both schemas, including custom fields where the platform exposes them. Sync to existing tables, or let Stacksync create new ones with ideal data types.
Fields map automatically even when names and types differ. Stacksync handles transformation and type casting for you, zero configuration required.
Yes. Stacksync provides a managed, real-time two-way integration between Ironclad and Smartsheet: authenticate both systems, choose the objects to sync (such as Ironclad's Workflow Approvals and Signature Packets), map fields visually, and changes propagate both ways in milliseconds — no code required.
Yes. Each object mapping can be bidirectional or restricted to a single direction (both systems accept writes). Read-only mirrors, one-way pushes, and full two-way sync can be mixed in the same integration.
Common patterns for Ironclad and Smartsheet: Handoffs between teams; Where both tools track people or companies: one consistent record; Where one tool produces events: mirror them in the other. When work started in one tool continues in the other, the shared fields travel with it automatically.
Ironclad: REST/JSON Public API (CLM API) at https://na1.ironcladapp.com/public/api/v1 (NA1 and EU1 regions plus a demo/sandbox), with a native Webhooks subscription API; described by an OpenAPI 3.1 spec. Authentication: OAuth 2.0 - Authorization Code grant (PKCE for public clients) and Client Credentials grant for server-to-server; access tokens are Bearer, expire after 6 hours, and every endpoint is gated by a resource scope. The legacy static API bearer token was deprecated on 2024-11-22. Smartsheet: REST API (v2.0). Authentication: OAuth 2.0 authorization-code flow, or a raw/personal API access token passed as a Bearer header. Stacksync manages authentication, retries, and rate limits on both sides.
Ironclad: Ironclad has a native webhooks API with 40+ event types and retries a failing endpoint up to 10 times over about 13.6 hours; there is no database change-data-capture log. Smartsheet: Cell writes must match the column type (CONTACT_LIST, PICKLIST, DATE, CHECKBOX), so mappings have to respect each column's definition. Stacksync's field mapping accounts for these differences between Ironclad and Smartsheet without custom code.
Stacksync is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified with HIPAA BAA support. Data is encrypted in transit, and a zero-persistent-storage architecture means Ironclad and Smartsheet records are not retained after a sync operation.
