Why teams connect Odoo and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Feed the real customer, order, and revenue records from Odoo into Salesforce Marketing Cloud so campaigns run on who actually bought what, and let contact and consent changes flow back in real time.

Marketing runs on lists of people, but the list rarely knows which of those people are paying customers, what they ordered, or what they are worth. Odoo holds exactly that: Invoices (account.move), Products (product.template / product.product), CRM Leads (crm.lead), Purchase Orders (purchase.order) that record who the customer is, what they bought, and what they owe. When the two are joined only by a periodic export, campaigns go out against stale audiences, existing customers get prospecting emails, high-value accounts look the same as cold leads, and a canceled order still counts toward a segment.

Stacksync syncs Invoices (account.move), Products (product.template / product.product), CRM Leads (crm.lead), Purchase Orders (purchase.order) in Odoo with Contacts / Subscribers, Journeys (Journey Builder), Content Assets (Content Builder), Automations (Automation Studio) in Salesforce Marketing Cloud in real time, and where both sides accept writes, in both directions. Customer, order, and invoice data maps field by field onto the contacts, audiences, or accounts Salesforce Marketing Cloud works with, so segmentation and personalization run on current purchase history instead of a month-old snapshot. Contact details and consent changes that originate in Salesforce Marketing Cloud flow back onto the record in Odoo.

The strongest bridge between the two is identity and purchase history, who the customer is and what they have bought, so that is where most of the value sits. Because the sync is field-level, each system keeps the attributes the other has no use for; only the shared records are held in agreement.

Common use cases

  • 01 Mirror invoices and journal entries into a warehouse for consolidated financial reporting across entities.
  • 02 Keep product and price list data aligned between Odoo and storefronts or marketplaces.
  • 03 Push CRM or warehouse audience segments into Data Extensions via the async rows API (background bulk insert) so marketing sends to freshly built audiences without manual CSV imports.
  • 04 Fire Journey Builder entry events (/interaction/v1/events) from an app or database when a contact acts, so behavioral journeys trigger on live events instead of scheduled batch loads.

Common sync patterns

Suppress or target existing customers

Because Odoo knows who is already a paying customer, Salesforce Marketing Cloud can exclude them from acquisition campaigns or single them out for renewal and cross-sell.

One customer identity across both systems

A person or company's contact details corrected in either system update the other, so marketing and the back office stop maintaining separate versions of the same record.

Lifecycle triggers from back-office events

A first order, a renewal, or a lapsed account recorded in Odoo appears in Salesforce Marketing Cloud within seconds, ready to start or stop a lifecycle campaign.

What you can sync between Odoo and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Representative objects on each side — any object or custom field can map to any target. Schemas are auto-detected; types are converted between the two systems.

Odoo objects Salesforce Marketing Cloud objects How this pairing syncs
Contacts (res.partner) The unified person/company record used across sales, invoicing, and purchasing; the anchor for CRM syncs. Tracking Events Sent, Open, Click, Bounce, Unsubscribe, and NotSent events retrieved through the SOAP tracking objects (SentEvent, OpenEvent, ClickEvent, BounceEvent) or the Automation Studio Data Views (_Sent, _Open, _Click, _Bounce) - the queryable record of engagement per send. Contacts (res.partner) is specific to Odoo and Tracking Events to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Sales Orders (sale.order) Quotations and confirmed orders synced with e-commerce and external CRMs. Transactional Sends Triggered and transactional Email/SMS delivered through the Messaging API (/messaging/v1/email/messages/{key}); the Event Notification Service reports each message's disposition (delivered, bounced, opened, clicked). Sales Orders (sale.order) is specific to Odoo and Transactional Sends to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Invoices (account.move) Customer invoices and journal entries synced with accounting and reporting tools. Data Extensions Custom relational tables that store subscriber, audience, and arbitrary business data; rows are read via GET /data/v1/customobjectdata or SOAP Retrieve and upserted via the synchronous rowset PUT or the async /data/v1/async/dataextensions rows endpoint. This is the primary two-way surface. Invoices (account.move) is specific to Odoo and Data Extensions to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Products (product.template / product.product) Catalog and variant data distributed to storefronts and quoting tools. Contacts / Subscribers The contact model keyed by Subscriber Key, holding channel addresses and subscription status; managed through the Contacts API (/contacts/v1/contacts) and the SOAP Subscriber object, and referenced by every send and journey. Products (product.template / product.product) is specific to Odoo and Contacts / Subscribers to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
CRM Leads (crm.lead) Leads and opportunities synced with marketing and enrichment systems. Journeys (Journey Builder) Multi-step automated flows read and managed via /interaction/v1/interactions; contacts are injected by firing an entry event to /interaction/v1/events with an EventDefinitionKey and contact data. CRM Leads (crm.lead) is specific to Odoo and Journeys (Journey Builder) to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Purchase Orders (purchase.order) Procurement documents shared with supplier-facing systems. Content Assets (Content Builder) Emails, templates, images, and reusable content blocks stored in Content Builder and read or written via /asset/v1/content/assets, used to compose the messages a journey or send delivers. Purchase Orders (purchase.order) is specific to Odoo and Content Assets (Content Builder) to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.

How changes propagate between Odoo and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Each direction of the sync is driven by what the source system can signal and what the destination accepts — detection, delivery, and expected latency below.

Odoo Salesforce Marketing Cloud Sub-second propagation

DetectionOdoo notifies Stacksync of record changes through webhook events. Polling on the write_date timestamp every record carries.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Salesforce Marketing Cloud through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Odoo Sub-second propagation

DetectionSalesforce Marketing Cloud notifies Stacksync of record changes through webhook events. The Event Notification Service (ENS) issues HTTPS POST callbacks for transactional Email and SMS events (sent, bounce, open, click) once a callback.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Odoo through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Rate-limit considerations

  • Odoo: Self-hosted instances have no fixed rate limits; Odoo Online is subject to the platform's fair-use limits.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud: Salesforce does not publish fixed numeric REST rate limits; requests are throttled per account and can return HTTP 429, so backoff is advised. SOAP Retrieve returns at most 2,500 records per call and pages via ContinueRequest with the prior RequestID. Bulk Data Extension writes use the async rows API to queue inserts in the background.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Integration surface
Two APIs on tenant-specific endpoints: a REST API (JSON over HTTPS) for Data Extensions, Journeys, Contacts, Content Builder, and Automations, plus a legacy SOAP API (ExactTarget WSDL) for tracking events and bulk Retrieve.
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 via an Installed Package (Client ID + Client Secret). Server-to-server uses the client_credentials grant and web apps use authorization_code, both against {subdomain}.auth.marketingcloudapis.com/v2/token. The 20-minute access token response also returns the account's rest_instance_url and soap_instance_url.
Change detection
The Event Notification Service (ENS) issues HTTPS POST callbacks for transactional Email and SMS events (sent, bounce, open, click) once a callback URL and subscription are registered and verified. There is no general data-change feed, so Data Extension and Data View syncs poll by date fields.
