Two-way sync
Changes in Marketo or MongoDB instantly reflect in both systems. No stale data, no manual imports.
Keep Marketo and MongoDB in sync without custom scripts. Cut weeks of integration work, eliminate silent data drift, and give your team a single, reliable source of truth.
Marketo holds the people, audiences, and campaign activity that marketing runs on, but that data sits behind interfaces built for marketers, not for your internal systems. Engineers and analysts who need contacts, list membership, or engagement, for reporting, attribution, or product logic, end up writing integration code against a rate-limited API and maintaining it forever. Meanwhile the customer and usage data marketers want for targeting already lives in MongoDB, hard to get into campaigns without manual exports.
Stacksync mirrors Companies, Opportunities and Opportunity Roles, Custom Objects, Activities and Lead Changes from Marketo into Embedded documents and arrays, Indexes, Views, Change streams in MongoDB field by field, in real time, and in both directions. Marketing records become rows your code can query and join with product and customer data; audiences and attributes computed in MongoDB, from usage, orders, or account status, sync back into Marketo to drive campaigns and ads, with Marketo kept authoritative for engagement. You decide which side owns which fields, and Stacksync resolves conflicts by rules you set.
Segments computed in MongoDB from product usage, orders, or account status sync into Marketo as lists or audiences, so campaigns and ads target the people your data says they should.
Opens, clicks, sends, RSVPs, or ad activity from Marketo land in MongoDB beside the matching customer record, ready for reporting and revenue attribution.
A new lead, form fill, or list change in Marketo arrives as a row change in MongoDB, so scoring, jobs, and notifications run in the tooling your team already uses.
Representative objects on each side — any object or custom field can map to any target. Schemas are auto-detected; types are converted between the two systems.
| Marketo objects | MongoDB objects | How this pairing syncs | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opportunities and Opportunity Roles Revenue objects synced via /rest/v1/opportunities.json and /rest/v1/opportunities/roles.json; roles associate an opportunity with a Lead, so pipeline data can drive nurture and scoring. | Views Read-only aggregation-defined sources for filtered sync datasets. | Opportunities and Opportunity Roles is specific to Marketo and Views to MongoDB — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Custom Objects Auxiliary data tables described via /rest/v1/customobjects.json and read/written via /rest/v1/customobjects/{apiName}.json, linked to Leads by a dedupe/link field so campaigns branch on records like purchases or subscriptions. | Change streams The oplog-backed event feed that powers real-time change capture. | Custom Objects is specific to Marketo and Change streams to MongoDB — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Activities and Lead Changes Engagement feed (opens, clicks, form fills, Data Value Changes) read via GET /rest/v1/activities.json using a paging token from /rest/v1/activities/pagingtoken.json (sinceDatetime), plus Get Lead Changes and Get Deleted Leads; read-only, also available via async Bulk Activity Extract. | GridFS files Chunked file storage whose metadata can be referenced by synced documents. | Activities and Lead Changes is specific to Marketo and GridFS files to MongoDB — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Static Lists Named static lists; read via /rest/v1/lists.json, with Leads added or removed via POST and DELETE on /rest/v1/lists/{listId}/leads.json to control campaign membership from lifecycle logic computed downstream. | Databases Logical groupings of collections that scope a sync connection. | Static Lists is specific to Marketo and Databases to MongoDB — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Programs and Program Members Marketing programs read via /rest/v1/programs.json; program membership and member status managed via /rest/v1/leads/programs/{programId}.json and the program status endpoint for acquisition and attribution reporting. | Collections The table-like sync unit; each collection maps to a table or object in the paired system. | Programs and Program Members is specific to Marketo and Collections to MongoDB — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. | |
| Smart Campaigns Automation flows read via /rest/v1/campaigns.json and run against a set of Leads by requesting a trigger campaign with POST /rest/v1/campaigns/{id}/trigger.json, so downstream logic can push Leads into a Marketo flow. | Documents BSON records created, updated, and deleted during syncs, keyed by _id. | Smart Campaigns is specific to Marketo and Documents to MongoDB — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side. |
Each direction of the sync is driven by what the source system can signal and what the destination accepts — detection, delivery, and expected latency below.
DetectionStacksync polls Marketo for changes on an incremental schedule, reading only records changed since the previous pass. Polling: Get Lead Changes and Get Lead Activities from a paging token seeded by a sinceDatetime, plus Get Deleted Leads, or Bulk Extract filtered on.
DeliveryEach detected change is applied to MongoDB as a row-level write, with types converted between the two schemas.
DetectionChanges in MongoDB are captured at the source via change data capture — no polling loop against its API. MongoDB oplog and change streams (requires the database to run as a replica set — even single-node).
DeliveryEach detected change is written to Marketo through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Configure and sync within minutes, no code. Whether you sync 50k or 100M+ records, Stacksync handles the queues, infra, and plumbing. Integrations are non-invasive and need zero setup on your systems.
Authenticate Marketo and MongoDB with each platform's native method — OAuth, API keys, or service accounts — plus secure options like SSH tunneling, IP whitelisting, and VPC peering.
Pick the Marketo and MongoDB objects to sync — Stacksync auto-detects both schemas, including custom fields where the platform exposes them. Sync to existing tables, or let Stacksync create new ones with ideal data types.
Fields map automatically even when names and types differ. Stacksync handles transformation and type casting for you, zero configuration required.
Yes. Stacksync provides a managed, real-time two-way integration between Marketo and MongoDB: authenticate both systems, choose the objects to sync (such as Marketo's Opportunities and Opportunity Roles and Custom Objects), map fields visually, and changes propagate both ways in milliseconds — no code required.
On the MongoDB side: Embedded documents and arrays, Indexes, Views, Change streams, plus custom fields where MongoDB exposes them. On the Marketo side: Companies, Opportunities and Opportunity Roles, Custom Objects, Activities and Lead Changes. Stacksync auto-detects both schemas and converts types between the two systems.
Yes. Each object mapping can be bidirectional or restricted to a single direction (both systems accept writes). Read-only mirrors, one-way pushes, and full two-way sync can be mixed in the same integration.
Common patterns for Marketo and MongoDB: Build audiences from your own data; Engagement and results next to the customer; React to marketing changes as row changes. Segments computed in MongoDB from product usage, orders, or account status sync into Marketo as lists or audiences, so campaigns and ads target the people your data says they should.
Marketo: Marketo REST API (JSON over HTTPS) for Leads, Companies, Opportunities, Custom Objects, Activities, Lists, Programs, and Campaigns, plus an asynchronous Bulk Import (leads) and Bulk Extract (leads/activities/program members/custom objects) API and an Asset REST API for emails, forms, and landing pages. Authentication: OAuth 2.0 client_credentials (2-legged): GET the Identity URL /oauth/token?grant_type=client_credentials with a Custom Service client_id and client_secret to receive an access token valid for 3600 seconds, then send it as Authorization: Bearer on each call. The instance base URL is https://{munchkinId}.mktorest.com; passing the token as an access_token query parameter is deprecated (removal July 31, 2026). MongoDB: MongoDB wire protocol via official drivers; Atlas additionally offers an administration REST API for cluster management. Authentication: Database credentials (username/password) or TLS/SSL X.509 certificate (.pem upload), entered individually or via a MongoDB connection string (SRV or standard); Stacksync IP allowlisting required. Stacksync manages authentication, retries, and rate limits on both sides.
MongoDB: Change streams expose ordered change events with resume tokens, so an interrupted sync can pick up exactly where it stopped without a full re-read. Marketo: Leads deduplicate on email address by default (or a configured dedupe field / Marketo id), and POST /rest/v1/leads.json with action createOrUpdate upserts against that key, so records without a match key create duplicates. Stacksync's field mapping accounts for these differences between Marketo and MongoDB without custom code.
