Why teams connect Cvent and Gong

Keep the people you sell to and the people you market to in one shared view: Gong and Cvent sync contacts, accounts, and engagement in real time, in both directions.

Gong owns the customer relationship and the pipeline; Cvent runs the campaigns, audiences, and outreach that fill it. The two overlap on the same people and companies — a lead in one system is a subscriber, a segment member, an event registrant, or an ad audience in the other. When that overlap is bridged by CSV exports or a nightly job, sales works from lists that no longer match reality and marketing keeps targeting people whose status has already moved on.

Stacksync syncs CRM Objects, Library, Data Privacy (Erasure), Calls in Gong with Sessions, Speakers, Exhibitors, Surveys in Cvent field by field, in real time, and in both directions. You decide which system owns which fields — Gong can own account and opportunity status while Cvent owns engagement and campaign membership — and Stacksync keeps every copy consistent and resolves conflicts by rules you set.

Common use cases

  • 01 Import externally recorded dialer or web-conference calls into Gong via POST /v2/calls so they get transcribed and analyzed like native Gong calls.
  • 02 Upload warehouse- or CRM-derived Accounts, Opportunities, and stages into Gong through the CRM integration API so deal context shows alongside conversations.
  • 03 Sync Sessions and Speakers into a content database or agenda app so schedule and speaker changes propagate without manual re-entry.
  • 04 Read Budgets and event financials into an ERP or finance database to reconcile planned versus actual event spend.

Common sync patterns

Lead and lifecycle status agree

Status, stage, or score set in one system updates the matching record in the other, so a lead marketing is still nurturing is not worked as sales-ready, and a closed account stops receiving prospecting.

Segments and audiences follow the CRM

Where Cvent builds lists, segments, or ad audiences, membership tracks the fields and stage owned in Gong, so who receives a campaign reflects current pipeline reality instead of a stale export.

Where Cvent generates leads: hand-off without re-keying

New leads or responders captured in Cvent flow into Gong assigned and deduplicated, so nothing sits in a marketing list waiting for someone to export it.

What you can sync between Cvent and Gong

Representative objects on each side — any object or custom field can map to any target. Schemas are auto-detected; types are converted between the two systems.

Cvent objects Gong objects How this pairing syncs
Attendees and Registrations Per-event registrants; written in from CRM or marketing signup flows via POST /ea/attendees and read back out to a warehouse for attendance and registration-status reporting. CRM Objects Accounts, opportunities, stages, and users uploaded into Gong through the CRM integration API so CRM context appears alongside conversations. Write (upload) path. Attendees and Registrations is specific to Cvent and CRM Objects to Gong — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Sessions Agenda items within an event; listed or created through the API and synced so session-level attendance feeds reporting tables. Library Call-library folders and folder content (curated calls and snippets) read via GET /v2/library/folders and /v2/library/folder-content. Read-only. Sessions is specific to Cvent and Library to Gong — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Speakers Speaker records tied to an event; synced two-way with a speaker database or CMS, with an updatedDate on each record for incremental pulls. Data Privacy (Erasure) GDPR/CCPA deletion handled by POST /v2/data-privacy/erase-data-for-email, with data-for-email lookups on the read side; a write path used for compliance deletions. Speakers is specific to Cvent and Data Privacy (Erasure) to Gong — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Exhibitors Exhibitor and sponsor records; synced to a CRM or database to track booth, sponsorship, and lead-capture data per event. Calls Retrieved via POST /v2/calls/extensive with participants, topics, trackers, scorecards, and media URLs, filtered by fromDateTime/toDateTime; external recordings are also imported via POST /v2/calls with media uploaded via PUT /v2/calls/{id}/media. Read and write. Exhibitors is specific to Cvent and Calls to Gong — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Surveys Survey definitions and responses; read out to a warehouse for post-event feedback analysis alongside attendance data. Transcripts Speaker-attributed, timestamped sentences retrieved via POST /v2/calls/transcript for one or more callIds; available only after asynchronous processing completes. Read-only. Surveys is specific to Cvent and Transcripts to Gong — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Budgets Event budget line items; read into a finance database or ERP to reconcile planned versus actual event spend. Users Gong users and team members with roles, titles, email, and settings, read via GET /v2/users to map call owners and participants to CRM and warehouse identities. Read-only. Budgets is specific to Cvent and Users to Gong — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.

How changes propagate between Cvent and Gong

Each direction of the sync is driven by what the source system can signal and what the destination accepts — detection, delivery, and expected latency below.

Cvent Gong Sub-second propagation

DetectionCvent notifies Stacksync of record changes through webhook events. Per-event webhooks push attendee, registration, session, and speaker changes.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Gong through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Gong Cvent Interval-based propagation

DetectionStacksync polls Gong for changes on an incremental schedule, reading only records changed since the previous pass. Polling POST /v2/calls/extensive on fromDateTime/toDateTime.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Cvent through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Rate-limit considerations

  • Cvent: Responses carry X-RateLimit-Limit/Remaining/Reset headers; a 429 signals either the per-second limit (retry with exponential backoff from ~2s) or the daily quota (up to 500,000 calls/day on the Premium tier, 1,000/day on Free) exhausted until midnight UTC.
  • Gong: 3 API calls per second and 10,000 calls per day per company by default; exceeding returns HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header, and limits can be raised by contacting Gong.

How the Cvent and Gong connectors work

Cvent

Integration surface
Cvent REST API (JSON over HTTPS at api-platform.cvent.com/ea, paginated list endpoints)
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 client-credentials flow: a client ID and secret are Basic-auth exchanged for a 60-minute bearer token at api-platform.cvent.com/ea/oauth2/token; legacy API-key and SOAP/CSN auth are deprecated
Change detection
Per-event webhooks push attendee, registration, session, and speaker changes; list endpoints also expose updatedDate for polling and support on-demand manual sync
Capabilities
read · write · webhooks
Rate limits
Responses carry X-RateLimit-Limit/Remaining/Reset headers; a 429 signals either the per-second limit (retry with exponential backoff from ~2s) or the daily quota (up to 500,000 calls/day on the Premium tier, 1,000/day on Free) exhausted until midnight UTC

Gong

Integration surface
REST API on api.gong.io/v2 - retrieval endpoints (calls, transcript, users, stats, settings, library, logs) plus write endpoints for importing calls, uploading CRM data, and data-privacy erasure
Authentication
Basic authorization header combining an Access Key and Access Key Secret (created by a Gong technical admin, base64-encoded as key:secret); OAuth 2.0 Bearer tokens are supported for marketplace apps
Change detection
Polling POST /v2/calls/extensive on fromDateTime/toDateTime; the public API exposes no outbound webhooks or CDC, though a Gong admin can configure a product-side automation Rule that POSTs matching calls to a URL. Transcripts and analysis appear only after asynchronous processing.
Capabilities
read · write
Rate limits
3 API calls per second and 10,000 calls per day per company by default; exceeding returns HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header, and limits can be raised by contacting Gong.
