Active Directory is where a company records who its people are: their accounts, the groups and roles they hold, and the attributes attached to each one. Ironclad is where a slice of those same people do their work, as agents, members, or seats, and every one of them needs a matching account with the right access. When a directory and a productivity tool are maintained by hand, someone added, moved, or offboarded in one becomes a stale entry in the other within the hour.
Stacksync syncs Webhooks, Workflow Approvals, Signature Packets, Workflow Documents in Ironclad with Devices, Directory roles, Service principals & applications, Organizational units in Active Directory bi-directionally and in real time. Ironclad: REST/JSON Public API (CLM API) at https://na1.ironcladapp.com/public/api/v1 (NA1 and EU1 regions plus a demo/sandbox), with a native Webhooks subscription API; described by an OpenAPI 3.1 spec. Authentication: OAuth 2.0 - Authorization Code grant (PKCE for public clients) and Client Credentials grant for server-to-server; access tokens are Bearer, expire after 6 hours, and every endpoint is gated by a resource scope. The legacy static API bearer token was deprecated on 2024-11-22. Stacksync manages authentication, retries, and rate limits on both sides.
Ironclad: Workflows are the core unit - a live contract process (create, review, approve, sign) - while Records hold the executed contracts stored in the Ironclad Repository. Active Directory: DirectoryRole, servicePrincipal, and device objects are effectively read-only for sync; Users, Groups, and memberships are the writable surface. Stacksync's field mapping accounts for these differences between Active Directory and Ironclad without custom code.
