Why teams connect DealCloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Keep the people you sell to and the people you market to in one shared view: DealCloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud sync contacts, accounts, and engagement in real time, in both directions.

DealCloud owns the customer relationship and the pipeline; Salesforce Marketing Cloud runs the campaigns, audiences, and outreach that fill it. The two overlap on the same people and companies — a lead in one system is a subscriber, a segment member, an event registrant, or an ad audience in the other. When that overlap is bridged by CSV exports or a nightly job, sales works from lists that no longer match reality and marketing keeps targeting people whose status has already moved on.

Stacksync syncs Activity, Task, User, Deal in DealCloud with Journeys (Journey Builder), Content Assets (Content Builder), Automations (Automation Studio), Tracking Events in Salesforce Marketing Cloud field by field, in real time, and in both directions. You decide which system owns which fields — DealCloud can own account and opportunity status while Salesforce Marketing Cloud owns engagement and campaign membership — and Stacksync keeps every copy consistent and resolves conflicts by rules you set.

Common use cases

  • 01 Keep DealCloud contacts and relationships in sync with an enrichment or email platform to maintain accurate firm-wide relationship intelligence.
  • 02 Mirror DealCloud activities and tasks into an operational database to power internal dashboards without hitting the API on every read.
  • 03 Fire Journey Builder entry events (/interaction/v1/events) from an app or database when a contact acts, so behavioral journeys trigger on live events instead of scheduled batch loads.
  • 04 Land tracking events - Sent, Open, Click, Bounce, Unsubscribe - from the SOAP tracking objects or Automation Studio Data Views into a warehouse table for per-send deliverability reporting.

Common sync patterns

Where Salesforce Marketing Cloud generates leads: hand-off without re-keying

New leads or responders captured in Salesforce Marketing Cloud flow into DealCloud assigned and deduplicated, so nothing sits in a marketing list waiting for someone to export it.

New and updated people stay in step

When a contact or lead is created or edited in either system, the matching record appears or updates in the other, so campaigns reach real people and reps see who is already being marketed to.

Where Salesforce Marketing Cloud captures engagement: activity lands on the record

Opens, clicks, form fills, event attendance, or ad responses recorded in Salesforce Marketing Cloud post back to the contact or account in DealCloud, so reps see interest before they reach out.

What you can sync between DealCloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Representative objects on each side — any object or custom field can map to any target. Schemas are auto-detected; types are converted between the two systems.

DealCloud objects Salesforce Marketing Cloud objects How this pairing syncs
Task Synced with incremental and full sync. Journeys (Journey Builder) Multi-step automated flows read and managed via /interaction/v1/interactions; contacts are injected by firing an entry event to /interaction/v1/events with an EventDefinitionKey and contact data. Task is specific to DealCloud and Journeys (Journey Builder) to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
User Synced with incremental and full sync. Content Assets (Content Builder) Emails, templates, images, and reusable content blocks stored in Content Builder and read or written via /asset/v1/content/assets, used to compose the messages a journey or send delivers. User is specific to DealCloud and Content Assets (Content Builder) to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Deal Synced with incremental and full sync. Automations (Automation Studio) Scheduled or triggered workflows of import, query, extract, and send activities managed via /automation/v1/automations; SQL Query Activities read Data Views and write results into Data Extensions. Deal is specific to DealCloud and Automations (Automation Studio) to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Company Synced with incremental and full sync. Tracking Events Sent, Open, Click, Bounce, Unsubscribe, and NotSent events retrieved through the SOAP tracking objects (SentEvent, OpenEvent, ClickEvent, BounceEvent) or the Automation Studio Data Views (_Sent, _Open, _Click, _Bounce) - the queryable record of engagement per send. Company is specific to DealCloud and Tracking Events to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Contact Synced with incremental and full sync. Transactional Sends Triggered and transactional Email/SMS delivered through the Messaging API (/messaging/v1/email/messages/{key}); the Event Notification Service reports each message's disposition (delivered, bounced, opened, clicked). Contact is specific to DealCloud and Transactional Sends to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Fund Synced with incremental and full sync. Data Extensions Custom relational tables that store subscriber, audience, and arbitrary business data; rows are read via GET /data/v1/customobjectdata or SOAP Retrieve and upserted via the synchronous rowset PUT or the async /data/v1/async/dataextensions rows endpoint. This is the primary two-way surface. Fund is specific to DealCloud and Data Extensions to Salesforce Marketing Cloud — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.

How changes propagate between DealCloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Each direction of the sync is driven by what the source system can signal and what the destination accepts — detection, delivery, and expected latency below.

DealCloud Salesforce Marketing Cloud Interval-based propagation

DetectionStacksync polls DealCloud for changes on an incremental schedule, reading only records changed since the previous pass. Incremental via each entry's last-modified timestamp.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Salesforce Marketing Cloud through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud DealCloud Sub-second propagation

DetectionSalesforce Marketing Cloud notifies Stacksync of record changes through webhook events. The Event Notification Service (ENS) issues HTTPS POST callbacks for transactional Email and SMS events (sent, bounce, open, click) once a callback.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to DealCloud through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Rate-limit considerations

  • DealCloud: API request limits apply per firm tenant; Stacksync manages throttling and retries automatically.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud: Salesforce does not publish fixed numeric REST rate limits; requests are throttled per account and can return HTTP 429, so backoff is advised. SOAP Retrieve returns at most 2,500 records per call and pages via ContinueRequest with the prior RequestID. Bulk Data Extension writes use the async rows API to queue inserts in the background.

How the DealCloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud connectors work

DealCloud

Integration surface
REST API (DealCloud Data API v2)
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 client-credentials; a DealCloud administrator generates a client ID and secret in the DealCloud admin API settings and grants Stacksync the required scopes
Change detection
Incremental via each entry's last-modified timestamp; DealCloud has no universal native change-data-capture, so Stacksync polls modified rows on an interval
Capabilities
read · write
Rate limits
API request limits apply per firm tenant; Stacksync manages throttling and retries automatically.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Integration surface
Two APIs on tenant-specific endpoints: a REST API (JSON over HTTPS) for Data Extensions, Journeys, Contacts, Content Builder, and Automations, plus a legacy SOAP API (ExactTarget WSDL) for tracking events and bulk Retrieve.
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 via an Installed Package (Client ID + Client Secret). Server-to-server uses the client_credentials grant and web apps use authorization_code, both against {subdomain}.auth.marketingcloudapis.com/v2/token. The 20-minute access token response also returns the account's rest_instance_url and soap_instance_url.
Change detection
The Event Notification Service (ENS) issues HTTPS POST callbacks for transactional Email and SMS events (sent, bounce, open, click) once a callback URL and subscription are registered and verified. There is no general data-change feed, so Data Extension and Data View syncs poll by date fields.
Capabilities
read · write · webhooks
Rate limits
Salesforce does not publish fixed numeric REST rate limits; requests are throttled per account and can return HTTP 429, so backoff is advised. SOAP Retrieve returns at most 2,500 records per call and pages via ContinueRequest with the prior RequestID. Bulk Data Extension writes use the async rows API to queue inserts in the background.
