Why teams connect Auth0 and Dynamics 365 F&O

Keep the employee, group, and account records that Dynamics 365 F&O and Auth0 share aligned in real time, so a person added, moved, or offboarded in one system shows up correctly in the other within seconds.

An ERP and an identity system describe the same workforce from two angles. Dynamics 365 F&O holds the authoritative record of who works at the company, and often their department, title, manager, and cost center. Auth0 controls the accounts, groups, and access those same people use every day. When the two aren't connected, every hire, transfer, and departure has to be keyed twice, and the window between someone leaving in Dynamics 365 F&O and their account still being active in Auth0 is a real security exposure.

Stacksync syncs Purchase Orders, Customer Invoices, Vendor Invoices, General Journal Entries in Dynamics 365 F&O with Clients (Applications), Resource Servers (APIs), Log Events, Users in Auth0 in real time, with field-level mapping and conflict resolution in place of CSV exports and nightly jobs. A new hire, a department change, or a termination propagates within seconds, and where you want changes to flow both ways — the ERP's org data into the directory, account status back into the ERP — the same mapping handles it.

That matters most at offboarding and audit time. When the directory reflects the ERP's current headcount and org structure, disabling access no longer depends on someone remembering to update a second system, and access reviews start from a roster both sides already agree on.

Common use cases

  • 01 Sync customers, vendors, and released products into an operational database that internal apps read instead of calling OData directly.
  • 02 Push sales orders from e-commerce into F&O and sync fulfillment and invoice status back to the storefront.
  • 03 Two-way sync of Users, including user_metadata and app_metadata, with a Postgres database so internal tools read and update profiles in SQL while Auth0 stays the login source of truth.
  • 04 Provision and deprovision Users and Organization Members from an HRIS or CRM — create accounts and assign Roles on hire, delete on offboarding.

Common sync patterns

Keep profile attributes current

A name, email, title, manager, or department corrected in either system updates the other, so directory entries and employee records don't drift apart.

Align group and department membership

When someone changes team or department, their group or organizational-unit membership updates to match, keeping access tied to their current role.

One roster on a shared key

People are matched across both systems on an identifier you choose, such as work email or employee ID, so there is a single accurate list of who is active.

What you can sync between Auth0 and Dynamics 365 F&O

Representative objects on each side — any object or custom field can map to any target. Schemas are auto-detected; types are converted between the two systems.

Auth0 objects Dynamics 365 F&O objects How this pairing syncs
Organization Members Membership records linking Users to Organizations with roles; written to provision and deprovision access as accounts change. On-hand Inventory Stock positions; read out to storefronts and internal apps for availability. Organization Members is specific to Auth0 and On-hand Inventory to Dynamics 365 F&O — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Connections Identity-provider configs (database, social, enterprise SAML/OIDC); typically read out to inventory how each tenant authenticates. Customers Customer master records; kept aligned with CRM accounts in two-way syncs. Connections is specific to Auth0 and Customers to Dynamics 365 F&O — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Clients (Applications) Registered applications and their metadata under /api/v2/clients; mirrored to a database for app and credential inventories. Vendors Supplier master records; synced with procurement and AP tools. Clients (Applications) is specific to Auth0 and Vendors to Dynamics 365 F&O — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Resource Servers (APIs) API definitions and their scopes; synced so permission catalogs used for access reviews stay current. Released Products Sellable product master; read out to commerce channels and CRM catalogs. Resource Servers (APIs) is specific to Auth0 and Released Products to Dynamics 365 F&O — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Log Events Tenant events (logins, signups, failed logins, admin changes) from /api/v2/logs; read-only, streamed into a warehouse for security analytics. Sales Orders Order transactions; written in from storefronts or CRM and tracked through fulfillment. Log Events is specific to Auth0 and Sales Orders to Dynamics 365 F&O — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Users Core identity records with profile fields plus user_metadata and app_metadata; synced two-way (create, update, delete) via /api/v2/users. Credentials are never returned. Purchase Orders Procurement transactions; extracted for spend and supply chain reporting. Users is specific to Auth0 and Purchase Orders to Dynamics 365 F&O — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.

How changes propagate between Auth0 and Dynamics 365 F&O

Each direction of the sync is driven by what the source system can signal and what the destination accepts — detection, delivery, and expected latency below.

Auth0 Dynamics 365 F&O Sub-second propagation

DetectionAuth0 notifies Stacksync of record changes through webhook events. Event Streams and Log Streams deliver near-real-time user.created/updated/deleted and tenant events to a custom webhook or Amazon EventBridge.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Dynamics 365 F&O through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Dynamics 365 F&O Auth0 Sub-second propagation

DetectionDynamics 365 F&O pushes changes as they happen — webhook events backed by change data capture. Change data capture via the Dynamics 365 Change Tracking feature, enabled per entity.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Auth0 through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Rate-limit considerations

  • Auth0: Per-tenant limit of about 15 Management API requests/second (bursts to 50) on paid tenants; X-RateLimit-* headers and HTTP 429 signal throttling.
  • Dynamics 365 F&O: OData requests are subject to platform throttling; high-volume loads belong in the Data Management Framework.

How the Auth0 and Dynamics 365 F&O connectors work

Auth0

Integration surface
Management API v2 (REST); Authentication API issues the access token
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 client credentials from a machine-to-machine application; scoped Bearer JWT where each operation needs its own scope (e.g. read:users, create:users, update:users) or returns 403
Change detection
Event Streams and Log Streams deliver near-real-time user.created/updated/deleted and tenant events to a custom webhook or Amazon EventBridge; polling falls back to the Get Users search filtered on updated_at
Capabilities
read · write · webhooks
