Asana: REST API (app.asana.com/api/1.0, JSON responses), plus resource-scoped Webhooks and a sync-token Events API. Authentication: OAuth 2.0 for multi-user apps, Personal Access Tokens (PATs) for single-account use and testing, and organization-scoped Service Accounts (Enterprise) for admin-level access. Quip: REST (v1 Automation API). Authentication: OAuth 2.0 bearer tokens (RFC 6749/6750) or a Personal Access Token; domain admins can pre-approve apps for domain-wide authentication. Stacksync manages authentication, retries, and rate limits on both sides.
Asana: The API is REST/JSON with offset-token pagination (limit and offset params), so large projects are read page by page rather than in one call. Quip: Documents and spreadsheets are both represented as threads; there is no separate object type, so sync logic keys everything on thread ID. Stacksync's field mapping accounts for these differences between Asana and Quip without custom code.
