An AI system does not keep customers, orders, or invoices the way an ERP does. What it keeps is derived: the vectors and metadata in a store, or the classifications, extracted fields, and generated text a model produces over records it was handed. SAP is where those source records actually live, across finance, operations, procurement, and inventory, and that data usually stays behind a strict API with many record types. Whatever Pinecone produces, whether a category, a risk flag, an extracted value, or an embedding, only earns its keep when it lands back on the record in SAP where the business is run.

Pinecone: Two HTTP APIs: a control plane at api.pinecone.io (manage indexes, collections, backups, and, via the Admin API, projects and API keys) and a per-index data plane at the host returned by describe_index (upsert, query, fetch, update, delete, list). A gRPC data-plane transport is available through the official SDKs. Authentication: API key in the Api-Key request header, scoped to one project; every request also sends an X-Pinecone-Api-Version header (date-based, e.g. 2025-10). The organization Admin API instead uses OAuth2 client-credentials (service accounts) via login.pinecone.io/oauth/token, passing a Bearer token to api.pinecone.io/admin (Enterprise). SAP: OData (v2/v4) APIs on S/4HANA; BAPI/RFC and IDoc on ECC and on-prem systems; SOAP services. Authentication: OAuth 2.0 or basic auth via communication arrangements on cloud editions; SAP user credentials for RFC on-prem. Pinecone: Authentication is an Api-Key header scoped to a project plus a date-based X-Pinecone-Api-Version header; the organization Admin API uses OAuth2 service-account credentials (Bearer token) to manage projects and API keys. SAP: Released OData APIs are generated from CDS views and catalogued on SAP Business Accelerator Hub (api.sap.com), which is the reference for available entities and fields. Stacksync's field mapping accounts for these differences between Pinecone and SAP without custom code.
