Why teams connect MarkLogic and Notion

Mirror Notion's data into MarkLogic so your own code can read and write it like any other table, with changes flowing both ways in seconds.

Engineers integrate with tools like Notion through APIs, which means auth, pagination, rate limits, webhooks, and retry logic, all maintained forever and all different for every tool. Meanwhile the data would be trivial to use if it simply lived in MarkLogic.

Stacksync mirrors Properties, Blocks, Formula and Rollup properties, Users from Notion into Databases & Forests, Users & Roles, Documents, Collections in MarkLogic and keeps both sides in sync in real time. Your services query the database directly, and inserts or updates your code makes flow back into Notion, so the tool and the database never disagree.

Common use cases

  • 01 Push rows from a warehouse or another database into a Notion data source as Pages so ops and leadership read live metrics in a familiar Notion view.
  • 02 Sync a Notion content-calendar database with Jira or Linear by mapping status and date properties both directions.
  • 03 Sync curated master data from a MarkLogic data hub into operational CRMs and ERPs.
  • 04 Land document data in relational warehouses by reading TDE views as SQL rows.

Common sync patterns

Read Notion with a query

Records from Notion are ordinary rows in MarkLogic; join them, index them, and use them in application logic without touching the vendor API.

Automate Notion from your codebase

Write to the synced tables in MarkLogic and Stacksync propagates the change into Notion, replacing custom integration code.

React to changes as they happen

Updates in Notion arrive as row changes in MarkLogic, so triggers, jobs, and services can respond in near real time.

What you can sync between MarkLogic and Notion

Representative objects on each side — any object or custom field can map to any target. Schemas are auto-detected; types are converted between the two systems.

MarkLogic objects Notion objects How this pairing syncs
TDE Views Relational projections of documents that let syncs read document data as SQL rows. Formula and Rollup properties Values computed by Notion from other fields; read-only, so they are pulled out for reporting but never written back. TDE Views is specific to MarkLogic and Formula and Rollup properties to Notion — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Document Metadata & Properties Permissions, quality, and property fragments carried with each document. Users Workspace members and bots referenced by people properties; read-only — users cannot be created or invited through the API. Document Metadata & Properties is specific to MarkLogic and Users to Notion — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Databases & Forests Storage units that define the scope and placement of synced content. Comments Page and inline discussion threads; can be read and created, useful for surfacing Notion activity in another system. Databases & Forests is specific to MarkLogic and Comments to Notion — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Users & Roles Security principals that govern what an integration credential can read or write. Files and attachments File-property and file-block values. Notion-hosted URLs are temporary and expire, so files are re-fetched or copied at sync time. Users & Roles is specific to MarkLogic and Files and attachments to Notion — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Documents JSON and XML documents, the primary records read from and written to the database. Pages The core content unit and also every row of a database; synced two-way as records, with typed properties mapping to table columns. Documents is specific to MarkLogic and Pages to Notion — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.
Collections Named groupings used to scope which documents a sync reads or updates. Databases / Data sources Collections of pages with a typed property schema. Since the 2025-09-03 API a database is a container holding one or more data sources; syncs target a specific data_source_id. Collections is specific to MarkLogic and Databases / Data sources to Notion — each maps to any object or custom field on the other side.

How changes propagate between MarkLogic and Notion

Each direction of the sync is driven by what the source system can signal and what the destination accepts — detection, delivery, and expected latency below.

MarkLogic Notion Interval-based propagation

DetectionStacksync polls MarkLogic for changes on an incremental schedule, reading only records changed since the previous pass. No exposed transaction log.

DeliveryEach detected change is written to Notion through its API, with automatic retries and rate-limit backoff.

Notion MarkLogic Sub-second propagation

DetectionNotion notifies Stacksync of record changes through webhook events. Workspace webhooks (page.created, page.content_updated, data_source.schema_updated, comment.created.

DeliveryEach detected change is applied to MarkLogic as a row-level write, with types converted between the two schemas.

Rate-limit considerations

  • Notion: Average of ~3 requests/second per integration with some bursts; 429 with a Retry-After header when exceeded. Payloads capped at 500 KB and 1000 block elements.
