Sysco is a North American foodservice distributor that runs EDI on two fronts: merchandising documents with product suppliers (850 purchase orders, 855 acknowledgments, 810 invoices, 856 advance ship notices) and transportation documents with freight carriers (204 load tenders, 214 status messages) exchanged through its Manhattan Associates TMS. Redistribution Center suppliers must ship against certified 856 ASN/LPN output under Sysco's supplier compliance program.
Connecting via Sysco
- Register as a Sysco supplier (Sysco runs sourcing and supplier registration through SAP Ariba) and engage Sysco's Supplier Compliance (SCOPS) team on EDI scope; carriers instead request and submit Sysco's EDI registration form to TMS-EDIRequest@corp.sysco.com.
- Set up connectivity: suppliers trade through a VAN or EDI provider; carriers connect to the Manhattan Associates TMS via AS2 or via traditional EDI routed through the Kleinschmidt VAN.
- Map documents to Sysco's specifications: 850, 810 and 997 for the core supplier flow, 856 ASN with LPN detail for Redistribution Center shipments, and 204/990/214/210 for carrier freight.
- Complete testing and certification before the assigned go-live date; Manhattan Associates handles carrier protocol implementation and testing, and RDC suppliers certify their ASN/LPN output.
Testing: RDC suppliers must pass ASN/LPN certification testing on all covered areas before go-live; suppliers that miss certification must create ASNs in the iTradeNetwork portal instead of sending them via EDI, and mixing portal and system-generated documents is not permitted. Carrier EDI requires technical implementation and protocol testing with Manhattan Associates; Sysco's 2019 carrier guidelines list a one-time 500 USD testing fee.
Timeline: Sysco publishes no end-to-end timeline. Carrier onboarding starts after Sysco processes the EDI registration form and assigns a Manhattan Associates implementation coordinator; supplier ASN certification must finish before the go-live date Sysco sets.
