In ocean freight it is the shipper's electronic booking request for container space, covering cargo details, equipment, routing, charges, and dangerous goods; the carrier answers with an IFTMBC booking confirmation. It is the EDIFACT counterpart of the X12 300. A shipper or freight forwarder sends IFTMBF to the ocean carrier or transport provider whose services it is booking. A shipper has cargo ready for a planned sailing and submits a firm request to reserve space and equipment with the carrier.
