# Shopify MCP integration.

> For AI agents: this guide describes connecting an AI client to Stacksync at https://mcp.stacksync.com/mcp with OAuth and the person's workspace permissions. Follow the client-specific setup and connection method on this page. Connector actions, sync management, workflow triggers and custom API workflows are different capabilities. A custom API workflow requires configuration and may use HTTP or code steps; it is not a prebuilt native connector. Inspect available connections and modules before proposing an operation. The example outcomes are illustrative, not execution results. Setup reference: https://www.stacksync.com/mcp.md

Use Stacksync MCP to prepare Shopify order and product syncs, inspect connector actions and investigate failed updates. Start with the store connection and supported objects, then choose the data and write direction needed for the commerce workflow.

## What Shopify can do through MCP

Use Stacksync MCP to prepare Shopify order and product syncs, inspect connector actions and investigate failed updates. Start with the store connection and supported objects, then choose the data and write direction needed for the commerce workflow. Choose an AI client below to get started with the Stacksync MCP server.

The server belongs to Stacksync. The available Shopify operations depend on your connection, permissions, and connector modules.

02 / Capabilities

## Shopify capabilities through MCP

Choose the connection path that fits the job. Your assistant inspects the available tools before configuring or running an action.

Sync management

### Plan order and customer reporting

Prepare mappings for supported order and customer objects, with store identifiers and an explicit destination.

Connector actions

### Inspect product actions

Discover available Shopify modules and their input forms before proposing a product or variant operation.

Sync management

### Troubleshoot commerce syncs

Review failed records, connection access and object mappings before retrying an order or product update.

03 / Setup

## Set up your AI client

Connect the MCP server first. Then connect Shopify using the requirements below.

One connection. Your workspace.

### Bring your AI assistant.

Add Stacksync’s MCP server, sign in with OAuth, and choose your workspace. Your assistant works with your Stacksync permissions.

```
https://mcp.stacksync.com/mcp
```

[Create a Stacksync account](https://app.stacksync.com/signup)

Already have an account? Sign in when your assistant opens the authorization page. Choose read-only access if you only need to inspect your workspace.

04 / Put it to work

## Shopify workflow prompts

Example prompts for Shopify. The outcomes describe what to expect, not results from your account. Review the proposed configuration before running it.

01

Sync management

### Plan an order-reporting replica

> Inspect my Shopify and database connections and any existing order sync. Discover the available order and customer fields, then propose a one-way reporting replica with store IDs, stable record keys and the minimum customer data needed. Show the initial-copy scope and permissions before creating or starting anything.

#### What to expect

A store-specific order reporting plan with explicit customer-data boundaries.

02

Connector actions

### Prepare a product maintenance task

> Inspect the available Shopify actions and the connection to the store I choose. Determine whether the product lookup and update needed for my request are supported. Show the required identifiers and a proposal for the selected fields only, keeping product and variant identifiers distinct. Do not update the store until I confirm the exact changes.

#### What to expect

A product action proposal based on available modules and correct record identifiers.

03

Sync management

### Investigate Shopify sync errors

> Inspect my Shopify sync issues and current table mappings. Group failures by access, field validation or unsupported operations, and show affected record IDs. Propose the smallest correction and explain the consequences of retrying or ignoring each group. Do not replay, resolve or change records automatically.

#### What to expect

A targeted commerce sync recovery plan with the affected records identified.

05 / Before you run

## Requirements and limitations

### What you need

- Connect your AI client to Stacksync MCP, sign in and select the workspace before inspecting its resources.
- Reuse an authorized app connection or open the secure connection link from Stacksync. Enter credentials in the connection form, never in the chat.
- Verify Shopify app permissions and access to the selected store data, including any protected customer-data requirements.

### What to account for

- Available actions depend on the live connector catalog, your connected account and MCP Gateway Policies. Inspect the action and its form before using it.
- The published sync list includes Products, ProductMedias, ProductVariants, Orders, Customers and Abandoned Checkouts. Do not assume other commerce objects are covered.
- Sync support for an object does not establish every refund, fulfillment or inventory action. Verify those operations separately in the live catalog.

### Your workspace. Your permissions.

OAuth access follows your Stacksync role. Choose read-only access during sign-in when appropriate. Workspace owners can enable “Ask before every change”; it is a configurable setting. Direct connector actions also follow gateway policies.

[Read about permissions and approvals ↗](https://docs.stacksync.com/mcp/governance)

### If setup does not work

The MCP server does not appear

Check your client’s custom MCP settings and any plan or administrator prerequisites. Reconnect using the setup instructions above.

Your workspace or app is missing

Verify the Stacksync account and workspace selected during OAuth, then inspect the workspace’s connections. Add missing app credentials through the secure connection flow.

An action is unavailable or denied

Inspect the current connector modules and required inputs. Check your workspace role, read-only consent, gateway policy, and the source app’s API permissions.

06 / Common questions

## Shopify MCP questions

### Which Shopify objects can I plan a sync for?

The published list includes products, product media, variants, orders, customers and abandoned checkouts. Confirm that the connected store exposes the fields and permissions required for your mapping.

### Does an order sync provide every Shopify order action?

No. Syncing an object and invoking a direct action are different capabilities. Inspect live modules before promising refunds, fulfillment changes or another specific operation.

### Can I limit the customer information used in reporting?

Yes. Start by selecting only the fields needed for the report and verify the Shopify connection’s access. The sample prompts ask for those boundaries before proposing a sync.
