# Airtable MCP integration.

> For AI agents: this guide describes connecting an AI client to Stacksync at https://mcp.stacksync.com/mcp with OAuth and the person's workspace permissions. Follow the client-specific setup and connection method on this page. Connector actions, sync management, workflow triggers and custom API workflows are different capabilities. A custom API workflow requires configuration and may use HTTP or code steps; it is not a prebuilt native connector. Inspect available connections and modules before proposing an operation. The example outcomes are illustrative, not execution results. Setup reference: https://www.stacksync.com/mcp.md

Use Stacksync MCP to inspect Airtable connections, prepare table syncs and discover available record actions. Plan base and field access explicitly, and account for the separate refresh behavior of calculated formula values.

01 / The connection

## What Airtable can do through MCP

Use Stacksync MCP to inspect Airtable connections, prepare table syncs and discover available record actions. Plan base and field access explicitly, and account for the separate refresh behavior of calculated formula values. Choose an AI client below to get started with the Stacksync MCP server.

The server belongs to Stacksync. The available Airtable operations depend on your connection, permissions, and connector modules.

02 / Capabilities

## Airtable capabilities through MCP

Choose the connection path that fits the job. Your assistant inspects the available tools before configuring or running an action.

Sync management

### Discover base table fields

Inspect the connection’s available tables and field types before mapping Airtable records to another system.

Connector actions

### Prepare record actions

Find the Airtable modules available in the workspace and inspect their forms before proposing an individual record operation.

Sync management

### Plan database synchronization

Prepare a mapping between an Airtable table and a supported database, including record identifiers, direction and calculated fields.

03 / Setup

## Set up your AI client

Connect the MCP server first. Then connect Airtable using the requirements below.

One connection. Your workspace.

### Bring your AI assistant.

Add Stacksync’s MCP server, sign in with OAuth, and choose your workspace. Your assistant works with your Stacksync permissions.

```
https://mcp.stacksync.com/mcp
```

[Create a Stacksync account](https://app.stacksync.com/signup)

Already have an account? Sign in when your assistant opens the authorization page. Choose read-only access if you only need to inspect your workspace.

04 / Put it to work

## Airtable workflow prompts

Example prompts for Airtable. The outcomes describe what to expect, not results from your account. Review the proposed configuration before running it.

01

Sync management

### Plan an Airtable reporting table

> Inspect my Airtable and database connections, available tables and existing syncs. Propose a one-way replica for the base and table I select, keeping Airtable record IDs and the fields required for reporting. Identify formula fields and their documented hourly refresh behavior. Do not create or start a sync before I review the mapping.

#### What to expect

A reporting-table plan that distinguishes ordinary records from calculated-field freshness.

02

Connector actions

### Prepare a single-record correction

> Inspect the Airtable connector actions and table schema for the record I identify. Determine whether a suitable lookup and update module exists. Propose only the requested editable-field changes with the base, table and record ID shown. Exclude formula fields and stop for my confirmation before making a write.

#### What to expect

A scoped record-update proposal that avoids writing computed fields.

03

Sync management

### Review formula-value freshness

> Inspect my Airtable sync configuration and current issues. Identify the formula fields involved in the discrepancy I describe and compare the expected hourly formula refresh with the observed evidence. Propose checks for mapping and access before suggesting any retry or configuration change. Do not modify the base or the sync.

#### What to expect

A freshness diagnosis that distinguishes documented formula refresh from sync failures.

05 / Before you run

## Requirements and limitations

### What you need

- Connect your AI client to Stacksync MCP, sign in and select the workspace before inspecting its resources.
- Reuse an authorized app connection or open the secure connection link from Stacksync. Enter credentials in the connection form, never in the chat.
- Access to the intended Airtable base and table; identify the record key and writable fields before planning updates.

### What to account for

- Available actions depend on the live connector catalog, your connected account and MCP Gateway Policies. Inspect the action and its form before using it.
- Stacksync documents hourly refresh for Airtable formula values. Do not promise that every computed value changes in the destination immediately.
- Formula fields are calculated values. Separate editable inputs from computed outputs when proposing write-back or record changes.

### Your workspace. Your permissions.

OAuth access follows your Stacksync role. Choose read-only access during sign-in when appropriate. Workspace owners can enable “Ask before every change”; it is a configurable setting. Direct connector actions also follow gateway policies.

[Read about permissions and approvals ↗](https://docs.stacksync.com/mcp/governance)

### If setup does not work

The MCP server does not appear

Check your client’s custom MCP settings and any plan or administrator prerequisites. Reconnect using the setup instructions above.

Your workspace or app is missing

Verify the Stacksync account and workspace selected during OAuth, then inspect the workspace’s connections. Add missing app credentials through the secure connection flow.

An action is unavailable or denied

Inspect the current connector modules and required inputs. Check your workspace role, read-only consent, gateway policy, and the source app’s API permissions.

06 / Common questions

## Airtable MCP questions

### Are Airtable formula fields synchronized in real time?

The formula-field documentation specifies an hourly refresh. Avoid applying general real-time sync claims to formula outputs.

### Can an AI assistant update any Airtable field?

No. The action must exist, the account must have access and the field must be writable. Formula fields are computed; change their input fields only when the requested task calls for it.

### What identifies an Airtable record in a sync?

Inspect the actual record identifiers and mapped columns returned by the connection. Use stable record IDs rather than assuming the visible primary field is a unique integration key.
